Pete’s Wonderland

About The Site

Pete Kelly is a poet who wanted a whimsical and exploration-based website to showcase his beautiful poetry. His idea was that people could “explore” a room in his home to discover poems.

What he wanted to include:

  • Collection of poems

  • Image on desktop that allows for visual discovery of poems

I used Photoshop to brighten the portions of the image that would be touchpoints for the poems and then applied those images as hover effects to allow the user to move around the room and choose their own adventure. Each poem is laid-out on an image of a sheet of notebook paper with a stylized handwriting font to mimic Pete’s poetry notebooks. Each poem also includes digitized versions of his sketches that accompany the poems.

This site is unlike any other I’ve created - pure imagination and a fanciful adventure all the way through - I also came up with the “Pete’s Wonderland” name to match the slightly mysterious feel of his site.

Pete’s Wonderland Home Page

The home page of Pete’s Wonderland allows the user to explore a room in Pete’s home and choose their own adventure to discover his poetry.

Spiders in Love

Pete’s collection “Spiders in Love” is set in its own flip-book animation to create an encapsulated body of work.

Poem Page

Each poem is set in handwriting font with Pete’s collected sketches and organically formatted on a sheet of notebook paper so the user can feel like they’re leafing through Pete’s original work.

All The Poems

Users can choose from a list of poems to read if they don’t want to visually explore the room.

Spiders In Love Flipbook

I created this flipbook-style page element to create a special home for Pete’s Spiders in Love series of poems. It’s laid out with a combination of handwriting fonts to mimic his writing style, and images are visually “taped” in to create the sensory experience of flipping through a writer’s notebook.
