These clings immerse the user in the year’s branding and also act as wayfinding if an attendee isn’t sure they’re in the right place. For SXSW in 2025, the focus for window clings was art-forward, using key art to create surrealist landscapes throughout the venues. I focused on creating varied scenes that didn’t feel stale and incorporated movement and perspective to place the viewer right in the middle of these otherworldly settings. The Volunteer Staffing team had a loose idea of some of the imagery they wanted to include, but most importantly wanted the patches to represent different aspects of the event, while remaining ADA friendly in relation to color contrast ratios for the visually impaired. Each patch utilizes a different arrangement of colors from the 9-color palette and represents comedy, tech, music, and film for Volunteer Managers working from their 1st year to their 35th! I designed the artwork for the clothing line to be reminiscent of 70s & 80s beachwear clothing from brands like Ocean Pacific, but with a Willigan’s special touch. Will wanted the art to feel retro and laid-back. To achieve this feel I incorporated vintage-inspired color palettes and forms, but added a few illustrated elements for an extra pop.
